Storyboard

Box 1: The first shot of the music video will be a medium shot of the  main actor walking into their house with tears in their eyes as they just got their heart broken. The house is decorated with Christmas decorations to establish the time of the year the video takes place in. The actor is wearing cold weather clothes as well to further establish that the video takes place around Christmas.

Box 2: Once in the house with a close up shot the main actor looks over to the side which transitions into an over the shoulder shot of him looking at the couch that he once was on with his ex. Now with a POV shot, the main actor is watching a memory of him and his ex girlfriend on the couch when they were happy together.

Box 3: This following scene takes place in the kitchen. With another medium shot the actor  enters the scene and as the camera pans from being in front of him to his left side, the actor  looks over at the kitchen island to his right.

Box 4: In this memory shot, a wide shot shows the two actors are making gingerbread cookies together on the kitchen island with each other. The female actor is sitting on the island while the male actor is putting the cookies in the oven. Both of them are wearing an apron over their outfits.

Box 5: The next scene will be filmed as an over the shoulder shot following the main actor as he opens his bedroom door, walks in and before doing anything looks straight at his bed and once again watches his memories with him and his ex girlfriend. If we also have time we will include a minor shot of the actor walking up the stairs before this scene.

Box 6: This two shot shows the two actors laying together on the bed. They are both looking over at their computer which is playing a Christmas movie on it. Both of the actors will be wearing Christmas sweaters in this shot.

Box 7: Now with a new look on their face, the main actor storms out of the bedroom and slams the door. The camera stays in the same place but tracks them as they walk to the stairs and starts walking down them in a hurry.

Box 8: The main actor now walks towards the front door. with a medium long shot you can see them grab a flower from a vase and exits the house. Just like the last shot they appear to be in a hurry wherever they are going.

Box 9: Filmed from the outside the drivers side of the car, the actor opens the door, places the flower on the passenger seat and turns on their car. The next shot will be inside the car and will be a close up of their hand putting the car in reverse.

Box 10: The next scene will be filmed from the inside of the car as they are driving and will initially show the flower on the passenger scene but will then have a jump cut into the same shot but a memory of the female actor sitting in the passenger seat.

Box 11: Now at their destination, the actor gets out of their car and in a wide shot walks up the door of a new house with the flower in hand.

Box 12: Filmed with a close up of the actors hand, they knock on the door. We will add the knocking sound to this scene during the editing process to make sure its not loud enough to interrupt the music but still able to be heard by the audience.

Box 13: In the last shot filmed from behind the main actor we see them take one last deep breath and the door starts to crack open. Before you can see who it is though the video fades to black and ends at the lines, "ill give it to someone special"

The Plan of Attack

Props:

We have decided to do our music video on a Christmas pop song, more specifically Last Christmas by Wham. Because of this, most of our props will revolve around Christmas such as Christmas lights and other Christmas decorations. We will also be using cellphone(s) throughout the video.

Costumes:

Throughout the video, our video will consist of two actors. They will be wearing traditional winter and Christmas clothing. This will include jeans, boots, sweaters, ugly Christmas sweaters, and jackets. Although we live in Florida and do not experience a traditionally cold Christmas, they will still be wearing clothes suited for cold weather.

Schedule:

11/15/21-One group member researches Christmas music videos while the other plans out logistics for the project.

11/17/21-Our group will begin our storyboard.

11/19/21-Our group will finish our storyboard.

11/22/21-11/28/21-Our group will film necessary shots for the music video.

11/29/21-12/10/21-Our group will edit and finalize our music video.

Location List:

The majority of the music video will take place at one of the group members house, as well as a park. At the house, we will film one actor reminiscing about his ex, and in a flashback scene in that room, it will be a shot of the two actors together. This will also be true about the park scenes. The house locations will most likely be a bedroom, the kitchen, and the living room. As the video progresses, it will change to the actor moving on and no longer caring about his ex.

Back Up Plan:

The backup plan is to shoot at the other group member’s house if the other’s become unavailable. And if weather does not permit us to film at the park, we will make the accommodations and only film at the house.

Watching Justin Bieber Music Videos 10 Times in a Row

My group will be making our music video for Last Christmas by Wham which would fall into the Christmas pop song.

-Since most of the Christmas songs are to some extent love songs, two shots are very common to show both of the love interests of the video interacting with each other.

-Close Ups are the most dominant camera work for these type of music videos. But occasionally they have panning camera movements to capture the entire Christmas setting around the actors.

-In each of the music videos I watched in this genre, they used fast cut montages to tell a much longer story in only a 2-3 minute video. The tempo of the song is what drives the pace of the editing so since the subsection of our genre is Christmas Pop, these faster paced editing will be what is most often used.

-The settings of the videos almost always take place during the winter time in a place with plentiful Christmas lights and other common Christmas decorations. Its also common for it to be snowing in the scenes that take place outdoors.

-Because of the winter setting the costume choices are usually cold weather clothes, including jackets, pants, boots, mittens and ear muffs, for the outside scenes and typical Christmas apparel like Christmas themed sweaters for the indoor scenes.

-As said earlier, the Christmas songs are most often love songs. So having at least two actors, one to be the main singer and the other to be their love interest is a necessity.

Keeping It the Same

With how well it worked last time, I knew right away that I wanted to work with Bliss again for the second video. We both decided that we wanted to keep it small and only work with us two so that we wouldn't have any major issues with finding a day everyone is available like a group of 4 would have.  I met Bliss in 6th grade when we had almost all of our classes and since then we've become very close friends. Not only did we work on our first music video together but we've worked well together on multiple other projects. The most notable being our AICE Global Perspectives presentation our freshman year. So because I knew we were a good duo, I knew almost immediately I wanted to work with her again.  think the 2 of us will work well together on this project because we each offer something unique to bring to the group. I've never had any issues being in front of a camera so I'd likely be the choice for the main actor in the commercial. On the other hand, Bliss told me she wanted to stay behind the scenes and since she is really into photography and cinematography she would be the perfect cameraman for the job. Both of us will be involved in every part of the way helping with whatever is needed, but I think we have a clear leader for each part of the process that knows a bit more than the rest in their respective field. Even though we just decided to work together yesterday I think the 2 of us have already brainstormed several great ideas for the project. We have already come up with a couple of brands and ideas for what we would do with each of those brands. The next step for us as a group is to choose which song we want to make our music video with and start to create a storyboard for whichever gets chosen. We intend to do this in our next class together so that we can get an early start on it. We also intend to make a schedule for when we want to accomplish each portion of the project. For example, having the storyboard finished by next week. Already as a duo, we've shown good communication which gives me high hopes for the duration of the project. We each learned a lot together from the last project, specifically how we like to work. So seeing that we did well last time, I think for this project, we will do even better. We've both set the bar really high this time and intend to uphold that when it comes time to submit the final project. And I also think that Bliss and I are already eager to start the filming as soon as possible.

Its Music Time!

My name is Zack Zimmerman and here's a little bit about my life. I'm currently a junior at Fort Lauderdale High school in Florida. I typically do well in all of my classes always making sure that I'm putting my best foot forward every day. But at the same time, I also like to not stress too much about the small stuff and go with the flow when I need to. My motto has always been to keep a positive perspective in every situation because It always seems to keep me in the right headspace and I'm almost never feeling down. Most of my peers know me for running competitively. I run both Track and Cross Country for my school and have been doing it since I was in 5th grade. Outside of school, it's what I spend most of my time doing and has become my passion. I definitely want to incorporate running or something athletic-related into my commercial project because I think I know a lot about the targeted audience for sporting brands since I am a part of that group. In school, my favorite activity is debate. I compete nationally against the best debaters in the country and tend to fare pretty well in those competitions. My dream career is to be in the sports media industry which combines my two passions of athletics and debate. More specifically, I want to be a host on a talk show similar to Stephen A. Smith on ESPN's First Take. Ultimately, that's one of the main reasons I wanted to take this class. It's not just that media is in the name, but I know this class dives into how content in various forms of media is made and I want to indulge myself in this world. I often choose the classes I take not based on what would look the best on a college resume but rather on which class can teach me the most relevant information for my future. And I think it's safe to say that taking AICE Media Studies is no exception to this. I like to think of myself as determined and when I put my mind to something, I shift all my effort into doing it to the best of my abilities. And I expect myself to do the same with all of the projects I do in this class during the duration of the year.
