Plan Actually is Followed (For the Most Part)
After the first portion of the filming didn't go as planned I was determined to make up for it with the second portion. This was the party montage and the plan was simple. Film everything, keep the phone vertical, and sort through it all later. With a plan this easy it was supposed to be really hard to mess it up. I started by filming the integrated titles. The first was the coca cola can which I just placed on the snack table and panned around it. Similarly, I zoomed in on the bag of chips with the second title. The red solo cups was pretty straight forward because I just placed them down in a triangle and held the camera still. The last title was the sunglasses which I asked my friends to wear while I filmed an extreme close up of her side profile while she talked. With these 4 shots out of the way I just filmed everything I watched. To ensure I had a diversity of shots I changed the angle. camera movement, and type of shot for each take. Shots like the coke spraying was filmed in a long shot, while the shot of the person hiding in the corner was a medium-close up. A lot of pans were used to show everyone at the party. The main issue we ran into was convincing the audience that the 15 people in the movie was a 200+ person party. We mostly filmed out shots with walls in the background to hide the fact that the rest of the house was empty. After getting about 30 minutes total of B-roll, Bliss and I decided to enjoy the party and celebrate our friends Birthday. The next morning we plan to finish the rest of the shooting.
